When I met the Longhorn Shell Team at Meet The Experts at the PDC I told them I had read Adam Bar's 'Proudly Serving My Corporate Masters', a great book on his 10 years as a developer at Microsoft (that's available to read online).  He left Microsoft frustrated with the fact that Windows never had a proper shell environment.  Well, it turns out that Adam's going back to Microsoft to join the Longhorn Shell Team.

Others have also been impressed with the new shell capabilities, code named MONAD, specifically the ability to deal with objects rather than text streams.  Larry O'Brien says it was the best demo he saw at the PDC, even though the demo was on a bus to venue. As he says 'sysadmin scripting: priceless'
